Voices of Faith is a collection of writing from authors who serve as leaders in their communities of faith practice. Since a significant percentage of evangelical Christians (I’ve read as high as 81%) voted for the Trump/Pence ticket, we thought hearing the perspective of ministers, pastors, clergy, rabbis, and faith practitioners to be of particular importance and worthy of note.
In the first three posts in this series about Mike Pence’s masterfully crafted political advertisement to sell a morally indefensible Donald Trump to American church-goers1 we covered these broad themes:
Racism was pervasive in a significant number of America’s white churches, especially, but not exclusively, in the South of the 1800s and 1900s.
I’m still flabbergasted by Mike Pence’s quiet, gentle, and mild-mannered suggestion that a cohesive American church was the unified source that brought the nation together through the civil rights movement. He then called on this American church to embrace a morally indefensible Donald Trump.
