Out of one (two, three…) mouth(s), this administration promotes hatred, anti-semitism, intolerance, racism, homophobia, fear of Muslims and disdain for immigrants as rapists and terrorists…
If you don’t know about Steve Bannon’s agenda, more will come on that later.
But when Pence sees an opportunity to contrast himself just a bit from his boss and his boss’ chief counsel and their agenda of hatred and fear whose rhetoric is all but certainly linked to the uptick in attacks on the Jewish community, the gay community, and other minority groups he jumps into action. Pence has to be seen wearing a white hat when 45 goes down. The nation must think nice things about Pence—the deliverer.
So he caravans out to the Chesed Shel Emeth Society cemetery in University City, a St. Louis, Missouri, suburb where at least 170 headstones were toppled and damaged in what was clearly an anti-Semitic act of vandalism.
And with cameras clicking and video feeds rolling, off go the jackets. Stand and deliver. Say nice words. Appear to do something when you’re doing absolutely nothing aside from creating this atmosphere of intolerance and hatred.
Excuse me if I don’t buy this bullshit photo op to satisfy some members of the base that think the executive office is doing far more harm for conservatism than good and creating an atmosphere of hatred and blame-shifting (that damned media, the enemy of the people!) in the process.
Let’s instead focus on the effort, organized by Muslim American activists Linda Sarsour and Tarek El-Messidi, to raise $20,000 in funds to repair the cemetery. They significantly exceeded their goal and broadened the funds purpose to support the Jewish community at large. Muslim Americans did something to address the hatred and intolerance the Trump/Pence administration is perpetrating.
You know, the Muslims that are supposedly going to blow you up tonight while you sleep in you homes. Those Muslims. The ones you are being conditioned to fear. To hate.
No Mr. Pence, I’m not buying your charade. Condemn Steve Bannon along with what he stands for and then talk 45 into firing him and his ilk and maybe I’ll reconsider your sincerity. Until then, you, good man, are complicit! You, and your homophobia, are part of the problem. Your PR stunt is in no way part of any solution.
